Our Guide to Adjustable Bases
In recent years, adjustable bed frames have gained significant popularity. Not only do adjustable bases make it easier to read, watch tv, and even work from your laptop while you’re in bed (even if we don’t recommend a lot of screen time when you’re getting ready to go to bed.) These adjustable bases allow you to raise your head and/or feet to a position custom to you. There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing the right adjustable base for your sleep needs, and while there isn’t a “best” adjustable bed frame, we can help you find the one that’s best for you.
Why do you want an adjustable bed? Well, not everyone wants to work from their laptop before bed, but these are also helpful when you’re sleeping. If you have pain when you sleep, or if you snore adjusting your head up slightly can help you stop snoring. There are even some bases out there that have a zero-gravity feature so your legs raise slightly about your heart to form a neutral sleep position that offers support to every part of your body and a weightless feeling.
One con to purchasing an adjustable base is the price. Yes, they can be costly, but there are models that are more affordable and still offer support and features of the more expensive bases. The Mattress Hub has two exclusive bases, the Basic 200 Base, and the Motion 500 Base. Both of these bases are aggressively priced to make upgrading to luxury affordable. There are 3 different Sealy, Tempur-Pedic base options we have available. The Ease Adjustable Base, Tempur-Ergo Extend Smart Base, and Tempur-Ergo Adjustable Base. All three of these models have a zero-gravity preset for optimal ergonomic position to simulate weightlessness. Serta offers Motion Essentials IV, and Motion Perfect IV. Both of these models have ultra-quiet massage capabilities making it easier for you to relax and enjoy your sleep. Beautyrest bases are also available. The Beautyrest Advanced Motion Base comes with a 20-year warranty and massage capabilities, and the Beautyrest Black Luxury Motion Base has snore relief, zero gravity, and lumbar support for additional back support. While this base is specifically designed to go with the Beautyrest Black mattress collection, you can use other mattresses that are adjustable-friendly.
Do you need a special mattress to use on an adjustable base? While you don’t have to purchase a super specif mattress for your adjustable base, using a non-innerspring mattress is recommended. Mattresses that are latex, memory foam, and hybrid are generally compatible with adjustable bases because they are flexible. When you use a mattress that isn’t flexible, the base can cause damage to the mattress and cause sagging, or the incompatible mattress can cause issues with your base.
Can you have an adjustable base with a headboard and footboard? In most cases, yes you can, but you might have to make some adjustments. The adjustable frame will replace the wood slats and box spring, so if you want to keep your headboard and footboard, a zero-clearance adjustable base will be the best option if you have a platform bed with its own foundation, or storage drawers built into the bed frame.
How long will your new adjustable base last? Most bases will last over 10 years, and some will come with a limited warranty from the manufacturer. However, this will also depend on the type of mattress used with the base, quality of material, and use.
