The Negative Effects of Interrupted Sleep

Cheap Sheep has been a wreck around the office! He’s cranky, groggy, weepy, and just not a very nice “little lamb” to be around. What’s the deal, Cheap Sheep? Thanks to some recent stress, he’s been waking up hours before the alarm. Cheap Sheep also has a new puppy keeping him awake, and his neighbors are throwing too many “righteous” parties. Even ONE of these disturbances would cause any normal sleeper to miss Zzz’s, but three distractions at once? That’s a bummer!

Interrupted sleep can result in several harmful physical and mental side effects.

Your Brain Slows Down…
When you suffer from interrupted sleep, it can slow down your cognitive skills and affect your attention span. This is especially dangerous when you get behind the wheel for your morning commute. Not getting enough continuous sleep affects your reflexes and decision-making skills, which can result in automobile accidents.

Memory? What was that again?
In order to commit information to memory, your brain requires long stretches of continuous sleep. Interrupted sleep makes it extremely difficult to create memories, and learn and remember new skills. Life becomes one big sleepy blur. Remember that awesome joke at lunch yesterday, Cheap Sheep? Of course you don’t!

Bad Proteins Hanging Around
When you get continuous sleep, the body removes amyloid proteins that are linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Brain scans have shown a large number of these proteins in patients who experience interrupted sleep on a nightly basis. This can have a dangerous impact on your long-term health.

Becoming a “Grumpy Gus”
Not enough continuous sleep at night can turn otherwise wonderful dreamers into a “Grumpy Gus” or “Debbie Downer.” During this transformation you are cranky, irritable, surly, and short-tempered. This affects relationships with friends, family, loved ones, and co-workers. Over time, this interrupted sleep schedule increases the chances of developing depression.

Cheap Sheep is already practicing better bedtime habits in order to catch continuous Zzz’s. He’s no longer a “Grumpy Gus” and we couldn’t be happier. For more sleep tips, visit The Mattress Hub and take a luxury mattress for a test drive!
